Asset Declarations - include spouse's?

Asset Declarations - include spouse's?

Didn't find your answer?

I'm nearing the end of a back duty investigation and my client now needs to fill in the 'Declaration of Assets and Liabilities'. I notice it asks for data in respect of children but there is no mention anywhere that I can see of including information on his wife's assets - she has some money in ISAs. And what if the house is jointly owned? Is the IR so PC these days that it daren't ask for data on the wife as she was not the one being investigated? I don't want to advise my client to omit his wife's savings if this is incorrect.

statement of assets
Since the beginning of independent taxation husbands and wives have been separate for tax purposes. Your client cannot in any case give an account of his wife's assets : they are beyond his control and possibly his knowledge.
