If a husband and wife each have their own companies in different trades are they associated for corporation tax purposes.

Yes I agree that the companies are associated but I believe that if they were not married but lived together as if they were, then the companies would not be associated. This surely cannot be fair, it is almost a tax on marriage whereas once we had an allowance for it. Maybe you should advise they get divorced!

The only exceptions are in ESC C9 which may exclude companies owned by other relatives from the associated companies rules - but not ones owned by spouses.
