Hi, I have a workbook with several worksheets with a large amount of data in rows or colunmns. I have always been able to sucessfully apply a filter as and when I need to to the data, also I have been able to use the "trace precedents" and "trace dependents" tools. But now for some reason, these options are greyed out when I am using this work book and I dont know why. It seems like there is some rule that has been applied to this workbook that does no allow me to use these functions - but I really need to use them and am desperate to be able to reverse whatever has happened. If anyone can help me I would be truely grateful. I have looked at the trouble shooting filter tips in microsoft and none of it seems to be particularly relevant to my problem. Many thanks in advance

Hi Paul
Many thanks for the suggestion, but I have tried that to no avail, the sheet was unprotected anyway, however after your suggestion I tried protecting it, then unprotecting it just to make sure, but it didnt help :(
Sounds like..
Sounds like the sheet or workbook has been protected - try tools, protection, unprotect (workbook or sheet).
If this has been done by someone else, it may need a password.
Hope that helps
Paul
I have done it!
Dear all, for anyone that is interested, I managed to reinstate my auto filter by going to tools/options/view and selected to view all objects. Who knows why it was turned off, but nevermind, it works now!
