Bi-lingual Software

Didn't find your answer?

Can anyone recommend a software package suitable for a SME with high volumes that is available in both German and English languages with support in Switzerland?

Second language functionality
I work at a German subsidiary of a US company. We use Navision. There is a button which can be clicked to switch the language from German to "English". However, the "English" is really only half-English, e.g. some of the menu options change to English, but some don't. It may be due to some customisations which work in the first language only, I really don't know, and didn't really care, as I don't need English, nor does anybody else here.

Previously, I was at a German subsidiary of a UK company using MAX. We were the first German user of this software. The German version was newly-made for us (with a view to selling it to other German users later). The German version was not entirely satisfactory because (1) some translations were a little odd, and (2) some menu options which worked perfectly well in the English version didn't work in the German version, so some users switched to being 'English users'.

I suspect these sort of problems exist in many packages - second language functionality may not be all it is cracked up to be. But who needs second language functionality anyway? I can understand the need for a package which is available in different language versions for subsidiaries in different countries, but who really needs dual-language functionality in a single subsidiary?

NB, also check that the local language version satisfactorily meets the local differences in accounting rules etc, as well as language differences!

Owen

Access Dimensions
As stated by Sajit, Access Dimensions runs completemultin language.

We are about to start an installation in Kosovo, we can pull every label in the system out into Excel and translate them into Albanian then push them straight back into Access.

German, French, English etc etc are all standard. Different users can use different languages, and personalise any part of the system, if given the necessary security profile.

Being the largest Access dealer we have many clients througout Europe and regularly have clients with parent divisions in the US. Please dont hesitate to contact me to discuss any further questions about Access Accounts.

Kind regards.

Pricing
It is unlikely that any of the people that have responded will give a price indication without a meeting. This is because at this level the software is very flexible and consultancy can vary greatly depending on what the client wishes to achieve.

You could use the following as a guide though. For every £1 you spend on software expect to spend the following on consultancy;

Access/Hansa £1-£2
Navision/Sun £4+

Navision and Sun software costs will also be much more expensive than the other two.

Also, if you fish around for pricing dont neccesarily go for the lowest number of days. It probably means that the reseller hasnt understood the depth of your requirements.

I would look at the first two in the first instance then if you cant achieve what you need look at bigger products.

We are a firm of accountants and Ive been involved with most of these products to some level or other. I'd be happy to discuss with you if you wish. Or if you just want to get on with it then you could do a lot worse than talking to Richard at Asyst or Stephen at Hansa.

Bi-lingual software
Hansa Financials supports bi-lingual use as follows:
- users can use Hansa clients in English and German on the same data/server
- users can issue documents in any language, using their own defined language tables (for example invoicing in French)
- the German language version is supported by us, rather than requiring the user/reseller to keep translating upgrades.

Pricing is at the lower end for SME mid-range packages, meaning that it will be similar to Access, lower than Navision, and dramatically lower than Sun.

Hansa Financials is a high-technology product, supporting very high volumes (using Unix and Linux servers where necessary to get beyond the limitations of Windows servers, such as 2GB maximum file sizes).
