BTC Tax Software - any good?
Posted by Mark Three on Mon, 15/02/2010 - 12:33

The question that never goes away! I am considering a change to BTC for self assessment and corporation tax including online filing. Currently using Tax Assistant from Drummohr (IRIS) coupled with VT.
I shall stick with VT.
If there are BTC users who are able to comment on using BTC software it would be helpful to know your experiences of it.
Many thanks

Not for me
I had a look at it and didnt find it that easy to use and thought the price was quite high for what it was.
I chose TaxCalc much easier to use.
It works for me
I use it and I am happy with it. I previously used PTP and before that IRIS. It's as good as PTP in my opinion. IRIS is probably a better product but is very expensive for personal tax. I downloaded a tax calc trial once and took it no further, I cant remember what it was I didnt like.
Thanks
It does help to have feedback from a current user - or even a recent ex-user.
Hi
Any specific reason why you are thinking of changing from Drummohr? I am a Drummohr user an am quite happy with it. Have been using for the past 10 years.
Works for me too
I changed from IRIS to BTC last autumn for both SA and CT and, apart from a few little glitches in SA Solution, have found it works fine. I use it with VT and have found the links work well.
Since my new setup (VT, BTC and Logical Office) costs a quarter of what I was paying IRIS, and with no client limit, I have no quibbles about the cost.
BTC TAX SOFTWARE
As a long term Drumohr and VT+ user I switched to BTC software last summer following the acquisition of Drumohr by IRIS. Prompted to move by the searing memory of the PAYEMASTER debacle (and still no apology) and the IRIS price hikes following the acquisition from Freeway, I've had no problems making the switch to BTC.
Integration with VT/VT+ is excellent with the features such as disallowable VT expenses auto-appearing as addbacks in the SA100 following the paste from VT continuing as before. The CA computations in BTC are a peach, and I am very pleased I made the move (saving money to boot). SA800/SA100 integration works well too!
Transferring clients from Drummohr to BTC was very easy and there are lot's of little features with BTC that I like and have found useful. It seems that BTC have looked at other offerings and taken all of the good bits to end up with a very useable product. By accident or design, it seems to me that BTC have de-skilled the completion task because of the ease of entry and that offers other opportunities.
Nice to see Trust returns bundled in a basic tax package.
The front end of the CT600 package isn't as smooth as Drumhor but it works and it's cost effective and I believe the April release will address the issue.
If you arrived at VT+ after the experience of the Sage's and Quickbooks et al of this world you'll probably wish that you started with VT first and saved yourself a lot of angst, and I suspect that you will end up with the same sort of warm feelings towards BTC tax software as well.

Iris to BTC
This must be the year I finally leave IRIS ......
IS there a simple way to export my client data from Iris to BTC ?
BTCSoftware from Iris
Hello,
An interesting range of comments! We successfully imported standing client data from Iris into our SA Solution in 2009 for a number of new users and will be making the whole process even easier with the 2010 version.
Our support team will be happy to assist you with this or any other queries.

i changed from Ftax to Taxcalc for 07/08 and it changed my life !!!!
fabulous to use, and reasonable price.
support is amazingly polite, especially considering it is Mr. Mega-Grumpy they have to talk to.
Ftax is resource-hungry due to using adobe as engine, and creates massive files
