Budgeting Software

Budgeting Software

Didn't find your answer?

I have been asked by 2 of my clients to keep budgets for them and produce monthly variance analysis for them. Could someone recommend a good software package that would help me? I currently use Sage for my bookkeeping, accounts & payroll.

Many Thanks
Deborah Houston

A good choice
I strongly recommend Skynet software, the website can be found at www.skynetas.com (a free demo is available here via your internet browser, make sure you give correct details otherwise your request may be ignored!)

Skynet is a software house, that can customise the software in any way to suit your needs.

I would look at XRL
Take a look at XRL for Sage Line 50. It allows you to fully report using Excel on all data held within Sage line 50 and not just produce standard reports.

Look at

Interested in an alternative ??

Hello Deborah,

Are you interested in looking at an alternative to Sage ?

Even our "entry level" system "Diamond Prelude" has a budget facility.

We even have an on-line hosted option.

We're looking for new accountant partners, resellers and clients.
If you are at all interested please give us a call.

Sage Intelligent Reporting
You might have a look at Sage Intelligent Reporting which will bolt on to your existing Sage (check that you have a compatible version)

It does what the other respondents suggested in linking to Excel and will give you some built in reports / graphs which you might find useful.

I would say that it can be a bit tricky to use, but it has produced very good results.

Sage
As Helen suggested, Sage 50 will work fine as long as you take the time to set it up correctly and follow the correct procedure when it comes to adding nominal codes.

With regards to the linking process you can write a report which will give actual/monthly figures in effectively, a trial balance format. This allows you to then link other worksheets to the relevant cells and create your management accounts in any format you like!

I have a number of different versions which I have set up for clients ranging from a simple P&L/Balance sheet to a 10 page management report pack.

Also note that Sage has the ability to report on actual V budget via Financial reports/Management Analysis Report/ you can then choose between standard and advanced budgeting.

Let me know if you would like any more help.

Regards

Will

I use Excel
and link directly from Sage Line 50. This brings in all nominal values month by month when you click 'data - refresh'. Our budgets are set up in separate monthly worksheets and updated from the 'refreshed' sheet. On each month sheet I have actuals and budgets for the month and the year to date figures.
It's easy for you or your clients to maintain once set up and could be used for further reporting/charts etc if required.
One thing to watch for is when nominal codes are added/deleted in Sage.
I didn't actually create the link (sorry) but try Sage - I know it is an easy process.
I can send you a blank set up to give you an idea if you like.

Good luck
