Can anyone recommend a BACS solution/supplier

Can anyone recommend a BACS solution/supplier

Didn't find your answer?

I currently pay wages for 70+ staff monthly using my bank's online-automated system, now and again we also use the system to print off monthly bank statements and pay overseas suppliers but it's main function is the payment of wages. It's a little user unfriendly and expensive for more than one user plus when there are technical problems their staff at HQ don't seem up to it. I used BACS software some years ago and it appeared more robust - can anyone recommend an inexpensive supplier for a small/medium company.

Suggest that you contact Coltec Systems Ltd on 01543-677600 Their BACS Approved Software costs from £350.

HOBS
Bnk of Scotland (now HBOS) can supply you with a Business HOBS (Home and Office Banking System) fairly cheaply. You can pay wages/sals, alter D/D. S/O's and pay suppliers etc using it.

Re: Can anyone recommend a BACS solution/supplier
We’ve been using ALBACS from Albany Software for eight years. It’s cost effective, they installed it in half a day, the service is great and they’re nice people to do business with. What more could you ask for!

The contact number for Albany is 01420 547650 and the web address is www.albany.co.uk

A couple more alternatives
There are a number of providers of BACS software that can provide a solution. In addition to those already mentioned such as Albany, Paybacs(www.paybacs.co.uk)and APT(www.aptbacs.co.uk)are also worth investigating.

You haven't mentioned which payroll software produces the BACS payment file. It might be worth finding-out which BACS providers are supported by your payroll, as there may be productivity and security benefits if an encrypted, fully integrated option exists.

Another interesting alternative is Cashbacs(www.cashbacs.com), which acts a BACS bureau and provides a fully managed serviced.

The comments re. the various electronic banking products are probably valid but I don't imagine that you are considering moving your company bank account just to use one of these systems!

PC banking
The Royal Bank of Scotland PC Banking works well enough most of the time. It's called Royline for Windows

This is not the online facility (also known confusingly as Royline) but you prepare the payments etc offline and then connect to the bank. There are a few problems but having tried various other systems it works well overall.

There are import and export facilities which will allow you to enter the salary details and you can print off bank statements or export them to spreadsheets.

Mosaic Bacscom
Bacscom is a good, inexpensive product, which communicates directly with BACS rather than through your Bank - www.mslnet.co.uk

I have had dificulty operating HBOS hobs, over a network, and found their technical support to be inadequate.

Nat West - Payaway
I have used natwest Payaway software for the same thing. It integrates with my payroll software, so the whole process is smooth.
I have few problems, and find the helpdesk useful.
