Can we have the old accountingweb website back please???

Hands up everyone that wants the old accountingweb website back!!!

Can anyone recommend any other accountants forums?

I'll put my hand up for that

until the bugs are sorted out.

Bear with us

We are working on the site to address members concerns. However, we believe the site remains the best place available for quality advice and discussion.

I will give it a week to sort out all the problems

I'll give it a week.

Give AccountingWeb a break!!

I must admit that I did like the old site and did not see the need to change.

Nevertheless it has changed and I do like the design but the functionality needs a little work. I'm sure this will be addressed. I'm also sure that AccountingWeb are working hard behind the scenes to sort these gripes.

My main point is who do we all think we are? The last post states that "I'll give them a week to sort the problems out". What on earth does this mean? What are you going to do if after a week they aren't resolved? After all this is a free resource for us all.

Don't even think of setting up a rival site as long term they will resolve the issues and in any case it would take years to catch up to AccountingWeb regarding web links etc that ensure the site performs on search engines.

from I'll put my hand up

I mostly like the new site but I value the several psuedonyms that i used (depending on mood and tone) and think the new layout's a bit wasteful of space but I'm not against the change it's just a bit early and whilst teething problems are to be expected the ability to give a reasonably opinioned answer under some form of anonimity was probably one of the most valued bits of the old AWeb.

works bothways

Whilst it might be a free resource its symbiotic relationship. Without the users there would be little content, and without content there would be no advertising revenues.

I am very glad Aweb have (finally) back peddled on the anonymity issue and await their solution but the initial high handed attitude of "sort it out yourselves over the weekend" deeply concerns me.

No high-handedness intended

Without going into too much technical detail, although the old system linked user activity to your profile, it also allowed you to manually override this association. However the database did not record what was written in the override field. That is why we originally asked for cooperation - some people will have used the field to create anonymity and other will have used it to present a pseudonym. However, it may be possible - and we are investigating this as I write - to isolate entries where the field was altered - albeit we cannot tell what was written there - and make those all those comments anonymous. If possible, this will make more comments anonynous that is strictly necessary, ie where there was a pseudonym, but will address the issue of anonymity for past comments and will allow us to restore the new functionality. We will keep you updated.

Well, I am against the change

Unlike an earlier poster who wasn't against the change per se, but wished to make some points on the detail, I am most definitely against the change!

Not wishing to appear like a fuddy duddy and never having visited a social networking website (so I might be talking complete rubbish), but the layout of Any Answers now just makes me feel like I'm about to read somebody's chat up line....very offputting and, in fact, the messageboard for supporters of my football club now has a more professional looking forum than this one.

I also agree with the point about gross wastage of space. I think I would need a 40" monitor (maybe a bit of hyperbole) in order to see as much as I did under the old format.

Use of space

I also don't like the size of the fonts, with being able to see so much less at a time. Printing out an Any Answers conversation to keep on file (and I do that a lot) means twice as much paper.

We do not want to put anyone off entering the debate

All the Sift staff work really hard and are absolutely committed to making AWEB the best resource possible. We won't always get things right, but we will certainly learn from the experience and apologise for any upset to members. It may be a day or so before we have the solution to the anonymity issue ready to be implemented - but we are pretty sure we have one - and we will spend some time after that working on other issues that members have raised. We'll keep you posted.

I am not happy with the changes.

It is a big joke.
The search facility in any answers was very poor before. Now It is a joke.
Can we please go back to the old version.

I like it

Much more modern.

Still needs some tweaking though, particularly on the search function.

It ain't going back so just move on!

Having helped with running forums for a car club I know from experience that once you decide to change it that is it. There is an immense amount of work to effect the transition and once started you have to just go for it. Clearly AWEB did not get the transition process (particlularly the communication part) right but they are getting there and we will all have forgotten about it in a couple of weeks!
