Didn't find your answer?

If the CO2 emission data is not on the vehicle registration document but the information could be obtained else where, do you have to find and use the CO2 emission data or do you automatically use the percentage based on the engine size?

Or depending on the outcome of both can you choose!?

When to use CO2 emissions figure
The CO2 emissions figures must be used for vehicles registered on or after 1 January 1998. However, the information is only shown on the registration document for vehicles registered after 1 March 2001. For vehicles registered between these dates you must find out the figure - from the website already mentioned or from the manufacturer / importer. For vehicles registered before 1 January 1998 you use the percentage based on engine size.

By the way, the CO2 emissions figure is the value listed on the type approval certificate for that particular make and model on the date it was first registered. The figure is fixed for the life of the car. It does not change as a result of the emissions tests that form part of the MOT.

CO2 Emission Test
If the car is over 3 years old , you should find it attached to the MOT test certificate. Other popular and newer makes are on a web site that I came across a few days ago. Either DVLC or Inland Revenue - just cant remember off the top of my head. May even have been Aweb's PTP carlink site. Bound to be someone here who knows, Rachel.

CO2
There is a very good web site administered by the Society of Motor Manufacturers WWW.SMMT.CO.UK, which allows you to enter the car's details (make model etc.)and returns the relevant CO2 rating.

The other answers contain relevant info
But I do think that if there is a valid published CO2 figure, then this is the one you use, regardless of whether this appears on the V5.
