Car parking

Car parking

Didn't find your answer?

Is this allowable?

My client buys an annual permit from the council to park his car near his shop.

He is self employed.

Is this an allowable expense?

I dont think so
As far as I am concerned the answer is no. This is because his place of business is the shop and therefore, cannot claim any motor expenses from his home to the place of business. Parking near his shop would fall under this category. He may only claim parking and motor expenses when visiting suppliers or other busines type of trips.

Not allowable
I'd agree - sadly not allowable as not 'wholly and exclusively for the purpose of the trade' But if he was a director of a limited company I believe parking can be paid for with no BIK (you'd have to check that for sure as its a few years since I looked at that though)
