I have prepared SA returns for an employed doctor for a number of years. It has now come to light that for the years 2001/02 to 2004/05 he received mileage allowance from his employer at a rate below the 40p / 25p. He now wants to claim tax relief on the difference – it is worth doing as I estimate a tax refund in the region of £800.
Firstly, can we go back to these years and, if so, how do I go about it – simply write to the Revenue with the amounts which should have gone in the relevant boxes ?
Thanks….
David
