CIS tax suffered but no certificate issued

CIS tax suffered but no certificate issued

Didn't find your answer?

I have a new client who had tax withheld at 18% in 2002/03.
He was never issued with a certificate.
The previous accountant who did 2002/03 satr only gave credit for tax deducted at source in respect of vouchers obtained. Hence overpaid tax.
The subcontractor can now not trace the contractor who appears to have done one.
I am doing 2003/04 satr.

Surely this is not fair.
How is best to get back that tax suffered?
Is the impending 12 months from filing date deadline relevant for sorting this or atleast starting to try and sort it?

CIS Deductions
Andrew,
The tax office should have a record of the deduction if the employer filed a P35 - but if he has done a bunk, maybe he hasn't filed. You would need his name/Co name and address and your clients's CIS deduction number to speak with them.
It is certainly worth a call.
