Contractor

Contractor

Didn't find your answer?

A building client of mine does not use subcontractors and is unlikely to going forward.
However he is doing so for one job.
He is adamant that it will be a one off and doesnt want to register as a contractor.
I agree - is there a practical solution?
Would the revenue be overly bothered?

Yes
Take the subcontractor onto the books for this job and pay them under PAYE. Give them an uplift to cover the additional NI costs.

Of course if this is more than the cost (and delay!) of registering as a CIS contractor then you are as well going down the CIS route.

I would suggest setting up a dormant CIS simply so that it can be used in the future - much like the PAYE system.

What about insurance?
Won't you then have to pay for Employer's Liability Insurance?
