CPD Courses for Accountants in Industry

CPD Courses for Accountants in Industry

Didn't find your answer?

I have just moved into Industry from Practice and am trying to plan my CPD requirements for 2007.Most of the courses seem to be aimed at Accountants in Practice. Can anybody give me names of providers (specifically in the north west) or advice on how to achieve my CPD whilst working in Industry.

Thanks

Paul

ACCA? CIMA? You don't need to be a member to attend their cours
Don't know which body you are with but the ACCA has members section for accountants in Finance and Industry and runs a number of courses for them - I know because when I lecture for them I need to check whether my audience will be practitioners or industry- based. CIMA would also, I'm sure, run a number of suitable courses, given that so few of their members would be in practice. It is true, I think, that most training organisations seem to concentrate on practice because up until now that is where the market has been as an obligation to maintain a practicing certificate.

Practice course also qualify for Industry CPD
Examples are IFRS, FRS, tax matters.

You can also attend courses organised by professional institutes other than your own. For instance, if you are a CPA member, you can attend CIMA, ACCA, etc courses. As long as that course provider is an IFAC member, you are quite safe to qualify for CPD hours. If the training provider is not IFAC, then seek prior approval from your institute before embarking on that course. As long as the course is business related, and especially relevant to what you are doing and the course content is targeted at executives, that course, though not conducted by an IFAC member is likely to get approval from your own institute under structured hours.
