CT Online - what is the 'date' shown when...

Didn't find your answer?

A client posted his CT600 for the accounting period ended 31 March 2010 on 19 March 2011 i.e. 12 days before the deadline. Sent 1st class from a post office counter, not a box.

When looking at their online account, under Accounting Periods<Tax a date is shown of 5 April 2011 and the tax liability. But what is this date - it is over 2 weeks after the form was sent so surely not the received date. We have not had a penalty yet but want to be prepared to explain to the client if they do. Sadly, they don't have a certificate of posting but do have a recipt for stamps so I know when they posted it.

Problems

I know with personal tax there could be an issue because tax returns were stamped with day of receipt and the inputters would sometimes use the default todays date instead.

It's always best to send documents recorded delivery if date of receipt could be an issue.
