DAT files and Sage Line 50

DAT files and Sage Line 50

Didn't find your answer?

I am not familiar with .dat files, but a couple of (unconnected) clients have just sent me (what are supposed to be Sage backups) as .dat files.
A quick Google search doesn't give any indication of whether these are convertible to Sage backup files.
Can anyone enlighten me please?

Just checking
Forgive me for asking, but are these lots of .dta, rather than .dat, files?

If so, they are probably simple copies of the Sage data files and you could just copy them onto your system.

Definitely .DAT
Having said that I've just tried and it restores into Sage without a problem, so I was concerned unnecessarily.
I've also had someone send a .DLL file and that restored also.

Dat files
Some people have a problem with their email programs, (usually Outlook) where because of the settings, Outlook will helpfully remove the attachment as it could be a virus. One way of getting round this is to change the extension from .001 or .mdb to .dat, and then the attachment will then go through.

Could be the explanation, but then again, might not be!!
