Directors expenses

Directors expenses

Didn't find your answer?

A director of a close company has, during the year, incurred business mileage in his own car, made business calls on his mobile and home telephone, etc.

Are there any problems claiming relief for these expenses on the employment pages of his tax return rather than introducing them into the company accounts via his DLA?

(In this case, it would appear to be more beneficial for him to get the tax relief rather than the company due to his income from other sources).

E vs D
I don't think it is all a valid schedule E deduction (business mileage probably ok), but it would be okay for schedule D.

Logically, it is a business expense and it would be hard to say that the business won't reimburse it.

I think common sense should prevail, but if he has too much income (wish I did!) perhaps he should take a pay cut in future.
