Dog Walking

Dog Walking

Didn't find your answer?

We have a client who as part of their job has to work away from home during the week. The client lives alone with a dog so if away from home needs someone to walk and feed the dog on a regular basis. This will be at a cost of around £50 per week. Does anyone know if this is a tax deductible expense? I have a feeling it isn't but I need something a bit more solid if possible. Thanks.

Is he a security guard or a shepherd?

If the dog performs a function in the trade then yes. Otherwise no.

This is expenditure to put him in a position to trade. It is not a business expense.

It is conceivable that the dog is used by him in a second trade but otherwise the fact that he leaves it at home kinda proves the point.

Now resolved
This is just a pet not a trade or even a guard dog.

I have since spoken to someone from the tax office who has advised me that is allowable for National Insurance but not Income Tax, as it in an expense incurred in doing the job but not an expense that the whole population would incur.

Thanks for you feedback.

Oddly enough
The advice from the tax office
"is allowable for National Insurance"
is wrong.
