Doing your bit

Doing your bit

Didn't find your answer?

Morning all,

I am a qualified ACA working in practice, and a friend of mine has asked me if I will be able to 'audit' her recent collection for the poppy appeal.

I would like to say yes, but am a bit concerned whether I am actually allowed to. I generally don't take on any private work on the grounds that I have no insurance, and in this case I am not an RI so can't sign any audit reports.

I don't have any experience in charity audits, but am assuming that she just wants me to check her bank account and sign some sort of income and expenditure account. We are meeting up tonight, and I will find out more of the details.

Could anyone advise me whether in principle I can say yes to her? It would be nice to put my skills to use for a good cause for a change!

It's not a problem
I am not an auditor (I am a CCAB qualified accountant), but I used to "audit" local accounts held by the school where I was a Governor.

The trick is to sign them off as "inspected", rather than "audited". Our school's LEA were happy with this so I should imagine your friend's group will be.
