Earliest submission of P35

Earliest submission of P35

Didn't find your answer?

I know all the wages details for my P35, when is the earliest I can submit the 2008 P35?

Surely before 6th April?
I submitted a few last year in the first few days of April before they kindly shut down the HMRC online submission system for that couple of days around 5th April.

I have a few clients where the last payroll will be calculated in early March, I was hoping to submit in late March. Must check how early I can do that.

Anything before mid March would be a bit iffy I'd think.

Are we talking online submission?
In answer to your question, you can submit the 2007/08 P35 today if you want, or at any point prior to today.

Technically, HMRC's own End of Year business rules allow a submission to be made for any tax year at any point in time, so you could submit your year end return for 2009/2010 today if you wanted to, assuming your payroll product allowed you to. HMRC's own submission software may have some restrictions in it to only allow you to submit for a certain year, but I don't use it so I couldn't confirm.

Of course, HMRC's back end validation is only setup to validate data based on the rules for one year in advance of the current year at the most.

6 April 2008
It really depends on why you have all the wages details now.

If it's because you have ceased trading then you can submit the information now - although I think you will have problems doing this online.

If you haven't ceased trading then I would say the earliest would be 6 April 2008. Whilst you may have the information now (for example if you only have one employee who is being paid £100 per week) you cannot be certain that there will be no changes in the tax year until 6 April 2008.
