Emailing Sage Backups

Emailing Sage Backups

Didn't find your answer?

Is it possible to email sage backups to a client reguarly? Ive tried tonight attaching backups from a pen drive and it just wont attach or send. Currently book-keeping for a client who is re -locating but still wants me to continue, if I cannot email backups monthly I cannot continue,

Any thoughts

Oh dear
@Darren - the only thing I can say is that Sage hasn't convinced you of the benefits in such a way that you can 'sell' that to the client. But then in all truth I'm not surprised. Sage Online is...ummm...Sage Offline only with a bit of online goodness thrown in. It's not that great a product and when they told me about it last year it was as much as I could do not to burst out laughing. Trying to convince me that something is better, simply because it has gone online is the intellectual equivalent treating me like a village idiot.

If you're not already starting to see them, there are some very compelling online systems out there. Check this one in which I have a very tiny stake. It is a proxy for what the future holds.

Online fine but expensive
We have looked into online versions of Sage before and although they sound very useful why do they have to be so expensive - our client's are not prepared to pay for the service when transferring data by e-mail works- if not as efficiently.

Yes, it's possible
You haven't said which sage product you are using but if it is any of the Sage 50 range then the built in backup routine uses pkzip compression and so the size of the file should be small enough to email.

Once you've made the backup file it should then be a case of just attaching it to the email as you would for any other type of file.

Choose to just back up sage 'data' files
When you run the sage back up, select the option to just back up data files instead of all of the files. You then get a small file that emails easier.

At the risk of being daft
I regularly send backups to and from a client. I back up into my documents and then attach the backup from there when doing the e-mail. When receiving the backup, I right click on the attachment and save it from the e-mail into my docs and then restore it from there.

Probably hopelessly inefficient - I don't understand how computers work, but this works.

Hate to say this...
It's such a daft idea doing things this way when online solutions offer a direct way to interact with clients in real time. I won't pretend we've got all the bases 100% covered but check FreeAgent for an alternative view.
