I have an Excel budget file which was originally linked to other files, but is no longer (the other files have been copied into sheets in the budget file). Every time I open the file, I am asked do I want to update from the other files, even though the other files no longer exist. How do I get rid of these non-existent links?

I don't know if the addins suggested look at all links. I have found that 'hidden' links (within references to pivot tables, charts and even Names defined within the old files) can hold the link long after you think it should have disappeared. So if you find your link has not disappeared you may need to look at these areas.
Excel linked files
Try 1) linking the spreadsheet to itself - this occasionally or 2) just global edit the formulae previously linking to the outside spreadsheet to the tab within the composite spreadsheet (Ctrl - H). This assumes the 'shape' of the new tab has not changed.
There is yet another AddIn file!
You can download yet another addin file which allows you to delete the links selectively rather than all links blindly. The AddIn can be downloaded from here:
http://www.bmsltd.co.uk/MVP/Default.htm
The file is called "FindLink.Zip". You will need Winzip to unzip the file.
The Addin was written by MVP (Microsoft Valuable Professional) member and so it must be good!
