Film Production clients

Film Production clients

Didn't find your answer?

Two new clients in Film Production have a joint limited company but appear to bill their different work and level of fees to this company using their registered self employed status.

I have come across this before and never understood the logic the first time. Does Seem quite common in some areas of London.

Wondered if anyone else had come across this before?

Many thanks for your comments
Phil

film industry guidance notes
refer to para 9 of FIU guidance notes

I know it can work with dual contracts where the self-employed individual has established sef-employed status as actor or self-employed grade

Phil, I agree with you
Presumably it is the company that has the contract with the clients and then the workers are billing the company to extract their income. The only possible saving by working in this way is the Class 1 NIC. HMRC will have a field day with that if they pick the company for review. The workers would need to have significant self employed activity other than its transactions with the company to support this particular arrangement.

However, the film industry does seem to have a more protected position on certain aspects of tax, so there may be some wrinkle that's being exploited here. I know that there are a number of firms that are experts on the lurvies and they might be the best ones to answer the question.
