The previous time recording thread seemed to get rather bogged down in the "timesheets or not" debate to which I do not wish to add, therefore this is a separate thread to say thanks to those who recommended Fourfourtime's project timing software.
It very simply enables a precise record to be kept of actual time spent on a multitude of tasks during a day. For those of us who are easily distracted this avoids the loss of a considerable amount of chargeable time.
It's not a WIP system as such as there is no value element, but in my view is ideal for the sole practitioner with a single charge out rate or, like me, any partner or employee who has trouble keeping track of their time. I can now produce a report for the whole month and finish my timesheet in minutes rather than hours. Yes, I know that if its been taking that long I have real problems, that's exactly why I now have the software!
And, as someone said on the original post, they are very nice people.

I agree
It's certainly made me more aware of the actual time expended on jobs. It might not help with value pricing but it does reveal a great deal about the varying degrees of client co-operation in the work process which affects my efficiency and so my billing. I am a big fan of fixed prices but there have to be caveats.
