Free alternatives to Microsoft Office; not just Open Office

Free alternatives to Microsoft Office; not just...

Didn't find your answer?

Find the free Libre office and  free Lotus symphony here :-

Have you tried them; what do you think?

Are there any other free office packages?

I understand that..........

Libre Office is a new opensource offshoot of OpenOffice.

Also consider Google Docs

Google also offers 'free' office software functionality albeit in a SaaS (Software as a Service) model.

I bet most of your clients will be using MS Office products and you will inevitably run into compatibility issues at some point. A couple of hours spent sorting out such issues and you might wish you had just paid Microsoft for Office.

Agree with captainblack

Hopefully all these free products will help keep the MS office product prices in some degree of check, in which case I say thank you very much for that effect but I stick with MS.

The corollary of course is that a lot of clients may be using these free or low-cost alternatives (incl MS Works), and you should plan to work on their files in the same software environment as their creation (whatever the claimed compatibility which is always overhyped).  So you probably need to install all of these free products as well.

With kind regards
