Greek Tax Headache

Greek Tax Headache

Didn't find your answer?

I run a private physiotherapy company in the UK, we have recently won a contract to provide our service to holiday guests of a UK holiday company operating in Greece. We will be working out in Greece for a 6 monhs period. The holiday company say that they require us to have a Greek tax number before they will allow us begin operating in thier hotel.

My question is; Can a UK company register to pay Greek Corporation tax? And if not, how do we best go about this problem?

Thanks,

Tim

Corporation Tax or...

It might actually be a Greek VAT number that you are being asked to provide, and as you are based in the UK it may also mean that you will need to appoint a tax representative in Greece, and at not inconsiderable cost, to deal with the Greek authorities on your behalf.

Single market - don't make me laugh!

Greek Tax

I worked as company accountant for a UK company in Crete and you would not believe the red tape and complex nature of the Greek

Tax system. You may have to set up a Greek arm of your business. Your best bet is to find an English speaking Greek Accountant in

the area you are going to work and start things moving now. In normal circumstances the tax office in Greece is slower than a tortoise

but they are currently going on strike most weeks, so who knows how long it will take. You will probably need to show your certificates

in Physiotherapy as in Greece unless you have a certificate in the business you are going to trade in, you can't set up a business(officially

that is the case but normally there is a way round it)
