Help for novice and Ltd company corporation tax pickle please.
Hi there,
I am in a bit of a pickle regarding a ltd company that i set up. The story starts when i wanted to work for this online company called Arise.com, working from home as a customer service adviser for shopdirect group. Arise only let you work for them as a ltd company or under an umberella company as self employed.
So i was ill advised about the ltd situation by Arise who made it sound really easy. I was previously self employed and have treated the ltd company in the same way, by taking a wage from my monthly payment from Arise.com.
So in total over 6 months March to August 2009 i made a total of £1625, so that works out about £270 a month wage.
So i made no profits barely a living thats why i dissolved my company in december 2009. The issue is i could not afford an accountant on my small income and honestly thought i could manage it myself. I did the companies house stuff but then comes the corporation tax form. The first time i filled it in wrong and put my £1625 in the profits box and got a request for £342 corp tax...of which i don't have, so i re did my form after speaking to hmrc and now all of a sudden they want the following:
Directors report, Balance sheet, and Profit and loss, The question is really is that i haven't a clue what i'm doing and is there any way i can cut this tax down? If i was self employed i wouldn't have earned enough for tax, i paid my NI all the time. I'm just at my wits end as i do not have any spare cash for an accountant or corp tax as have been unemployed since the company folded.
I have all my invoices to prove my income and kept reciepts for hardware equipment i had to buy which comes to about £480, does electricity or heating come into play?
I just need a helping hand please to maybe give me a little guidance as to which way to go, someone did say to me about striking it off, but i don't know anything about that either. I know i should not have opened my company, but a lesson has been learned and i was desperate for work from home to fit with the children.
Sorry about the long post and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Claire.

re Arise
Hi
I would be interested in hearing from you regarding your experience with Arise as I have a client who is one of their subcontractors.
If that would be OK please e-mail me: darren@dflaccountantsltd.co.uk with your phone number and I will give you a ring.
Many thanks

update
Hi Tosie,
Just an update, i have evntually spoke to the mnrc...not the easiest to get hold of :) and they have said no probs all closed and finished now its been struck......just want to say thanks for your invaluable info and my stress is no more.
Regards
Claire.

does the company still exist
You say the company was dissolved in Dec 2009 if this is the case you do not need to do anything further.
Check on companies house web site re the status.of company.if it is dissolved advise the tax people of this and that is the end of the matter.
Whatever you do do not apply for a striking off yourself as you could end up with personal liabilities.
As you say you have no money try and talk to hmrc and see if they will reach a compromise.
If not email me and I will prepare the accounts ect free of charge.
