HMRC accounting error - any Recompense ?

HMRC accounting error - any Recompense ?

Didn't find your answer?

Finalising an Enquiry, HMRC made a large error. They charged my client extra 2004-05 income taxes, (which had already been charged once) through the SA System, by offset against a credit that was running on the HMRC account.

The error was large. Because of the complexity of the case, it took me a long time to find the exact error. 2003 and 2004 taxes were revised, so there has been a lot of action on the SA account.

Can anyone point to general Website or other official advice about: -
1. Whether my client can reclaim the accountancy charges, for finding the error? I knew there was an error, but I had to discover the source. I had to prepare a formal letter claiming the tax.
2. The General procedure for claiming accountancy fees, in respect of gross HMRC errors. Is there a neat summary, anywhere, of When and How this can be done?

Hi Peter
You just make an error or mistake claim, Write in with all the details, and raise an invoice to the client.

If you use the search facility on this site (just type: error or mistake), you will be able to find a lot of past Any Answers and articles on the topic to help you. I searched and I found an old query of yours too!
