HMRC CT Online - can I not use their software?

HMRC CT Online - can I not use their software?

Didn't find your answer?

I'm trying to file a clients CT600 online, using HMRC software (yes, I know, for my sins!) but they only give me the option to use 3rd party software.

However when I log in as the company (not the agent), it takes me to HMRC software that I can use.

Is this normal? Can agents not use HMRC software for Corporation Tax?

Yes - agents have access to HMRC software
... but it takes an extra stage. First, you have to select the client either by direct entry of the UTR, etc. or by Viewing a list of clients and then selecting the required one. Then, select the link under "File your return".

CT Software
I used to use the HMRC's own software but from time to time found they would not accept the submission as the software would round down the tax due instead of rounding up. Having spent months on the phone and getting nowhere - I don't bother any more... I had to post it all in the end.

Having said that, yesterday - I spent 20 min trying to submit a return using Keytime CT software - to be told by the help line that it was in the queue and I should wait - another hour passed (and of course tying up my computer so I could not do anything else) and it still had not been submitted.

I cancelled at that point. I'll try again later - hopefully the queue will not be as long!

Now working
Thanks for the responses.
Got it working now - HMRC took a few days to actually update my client list, so I couldn't select the company in question, hence the lack of software.

Given that it's a short CT600 I think I'll file on paper this time....

but is it free
Free at the point of use. It is not known how much of the 8.5 billion (yes billion !) aspire IT budget goes on providing "free" software as the HMRC won't disclose this information.
