Write to HMRC again

telling them you will escalate it to a complaint if you don't receive a response within 14 days - worked for me

Pick up the damned phone

I never understand why people insist on putting stuff in writing and then try rectify things by post.  Just ring them up and ask them if there's a problem and if so what.  Ask if it's been referred to additional security checking (and at £31K I wouldn't be surprised) and if so how long can you expect to wait for them to deliver it from that process.  Or it could have been sent to a wrong address/bank account.  But until you ask someone you won't know.

Madness!

Have YOU tried phoning HMRC?

You get a good long dose of music from 'the Queen of Sheba', and that's all!

Phone Them

It is well publiscised on here that HMRC has huge back logs of post ... phone them ... its almost always quicker. If the advisor at the contact centre cant deal with it it will be refferred to the processing office. These referrals seem to work faster then constant reams of letters from agents.

800,000

The postal delays at HMRC dont seem to improve.

I recall a response in Hansard about 2, maybe 3 years ago, where I believe it was the Sectretary of state for the Treasury admitted that at that time HMRC had 800,000 unopened items of mail.

Recently an officer admitted to us that her mail took up to 4 weeks to be opened and reach her desk.

So nothing seems to have changed.
