HMRC messing up statements??

HMRC messing up statements??

Didn't find your answer?

I've just thumbed through a few of the HMRC produced Agents copies of statements of account (because hardly any clients have got the correct statements yet) and noticed that where a balancing payment for 06/07 is less than £2000, and the client has schedule E (old school) income, the balance is being coded in 08/09. Plus POAs for 07/08 are being reduced.

This is inspite of the return being submitted FBI, box ticked to say do not collect tax by code, and ticked that 07/08 liability should not be coded (not that that should make a difference). Is this happening to others?

Why is it happening? - doesn't the Revenue computer read the boxes correctly. Basically, every case I've got like this, and there going to be a lot, are affected. They will be paying more than will be requested, then told there are overpayments, then the PAYE code will be wrong..... what the hell is going on??

box 23.1 ignore is a known problem
The Tax Advice Network newsletter of 10 January reported on this:

yes
Yes, I have seen a couple of cases where box 23.1 has been ignored and the underpayment coded out.

It seems this is a widespread problem.
