HMRC phone query

A client has just told me that he received a call from the Revenue earlier in the week enquiring whether he continued to receive a "salary or perks" (client's words) from the company of which he was a Director.

Has anyone else had such queries made directly to their clients or should I question the likelihood of this conversation

Strange

I hope your client told the caller to **** off.  Just because someone says they are from HMRC that doesnt prove that they are.  If HMRC wanted information they would write.  Certainly we instruct all clients to NEVER discuss anything with HMRC and refer all calls to ourselves.

This sounds more like some crook trying to find something out than a genuine HMRC call.

Secure?

Did the caller take him through security questions?

It's a two way street. HMRC expect us to prove our ID when we phone, but (unlike banks etc) don't bother when they call us. If they call, get them to prove who they are.

Sorry, I bet you get that all the time.
