HMRC Rejection of on-line filing

HMRC Rejection of on-line filing

Didn't find your answer?

I have unsuccessfully been trying to file an individual tax return. Client has an unused loss from 2006/7 of which some has been used in 2008, leaving a balance to be carried forward. On page SEF4,boxes 75 to 78 are correctly filled in, but rejection notice says:-
"The amount in Box 78 exceeds the positive equivalent of Box 75-Box 76+Box77"

Of course it does - box 78 quite clearly states "including unused losses brought forward"
and these are not accountable in boxes 75 - 77 as these boxes only refer to a current year loss.

Has anyone else had this problem and is it a software or HMRC glitch?

Help!!!

Angela,

Thank you so much for your comment - it solved the problem - just submitted on line and had the acceptance. What a mess it all is though.

i have not had that problem but been getting continuous emails from PTP regarding filing online errors.

in the last email they mentioned an update is available to correct this and needs installing either by going to their site or from the tax platform.

Links to known issues
These are the links to problems HMRC know about. Don't be put off by them being aimed at software developers. I think item 30 on the second link may confirm yuour problem.

Ask PTP
Contact PTP Support - they will tell you if it is a known problem with their software or with the HMRC software and if it is a known problem, they will be able to tell you how to work round it.
