HMRC Statements of Account

HMRC Statements of Account

Didn't find your answer?

I have been a big enthusiast of the new on line authorisation process for clients, until this week, when I am suddenly being bombarded with my clients' copies of their statements of account. I know on the 64-8 you can elect to receive these if you tick the box, but given that

a) we get copies of the statements twice a year
b) we can look at them on line whenever we like (assuming it is working) and
c) I always tell my clients what to pay and if they get a statement saying something different they are pretty good at telling me

Why on earth do HMRC think we want to receive the client's payslip as a matter of course? I have better things to do than keep forwarding them to clients.
Any suggestions for the best way top deal with it? Can I write one letter to one department listing all of the clients involved and asking them to change the record.

Bah humbug.

no, I already had the usual sack full
These are individual statements, coming through one by one for my new clients.

It looks like you are, but
are you certain they are not just your half yearly agent copy statements?

I know I received a sackload about a week ago on that basis.

Boxes ticked
The box on the 64-8 that says 'do you want client's statements of account to go to agent' has either accidentally been ticked prior to submission or, the Revenue have accidentally ticked the box at their end.

I'm afraid it's a matter of ringing the Revenue for each one and asking them to untick the box that directs clients' statements to you as agent. If you stockpile them and ring one of the call centre numbers they can do this in bulk, if you keep giving them UTR's. You can ask them why this box has magically unticked itself but it's only worth doing so out of curiosity.
