HMRC Watch

Didn't find your answer?

A client has received a letter from the Corporation Tax Unit in Cumbernauld informing him of the new enquiry window for company tax returns. It says that this is because he is an agent who has or has had corporation tax clients. It even quotes an agent ID.

This client has never undertaken anything even remotely connected with accountancy and we are all bemused.

How can these people take their salaries when they continue to under perform and how can they sleep at night considering the draconian penalties handed out to those who are so busy that they commit the occasional honest error, miss a deadline etc?

Odd Bill
I work in industry and was asked to complete 64/8 in order that HMRC would talk to me about one of the companies i do the accounts for. This is the only form they could use.

I too have received this as apparently i am now an agent!

Lets get Odd Bill to keep an eye out for more of these T*ts (Parus caeruleus)

Later edit
on second thoughts it should be Parus major

You've reminded me!
I got sent two letters for my own company over the weekend (and of course, lost them in my handbag, which is why the reminder is so timely). One was for it under its current name, and one for it with its previous name which was changed over five years ago.
It is the agent's ref. that foxed me. One I recognise, the other I do not! I wonder who out there thinks that they are doing my corporation tax?
Answers to [email protected] ...

Looks like there are a few more database problems, but what has gone wrong with agent IDs I wonder?

Yes yet another!
We also received this letter showing an agent reference that was not ours!

Our business does not deal with limited companies so the letter referring to corporation tax clients seems very strange!!

Are we all on another missing cd???

Is this a spoof!!! < BG>

More red faces?
I spoke to Cumbernauld where the letter originated and did not get much joy. I was told
that they didn't know who sent this out, and to ignore it.

I assume that I don't ignore the bit about the Carter Changes to which the letter relates though!

With embarrassment then anger
A client received a reminder for PAYE which on further investigation turned out to be in respect of our payroll bureau. When I rang the Revenue (refuse to use the new name) they told me they couldn't discuss why the address had been changed due to data protection! You have to laugh don't you - well no actually it's not remotely funny
