how to copy paste negative numbers of a...

Didn't find your answer?

I use a financial package that puts minus (negative) sign at the end of the digits for negative amounts. Thus (200.00)or -200.00 would be shown as 200- in that package. How do I copy-paste such numbers into Excel so that it is copied as a number and not text ?

thanks
Mike Rees formula works like a breeze. It will certainly save me a lot of time and big data entry hurdle. Big time thanks to Mike for his big time help, to the hosts/editors for a superb and much read web page and the readers and esp.those who take their time to volunteer answers and solutions.

I think you've got a problem
This kind of problem in Excel can be difficult to solve using standard paste techniques. It is likely that you will have to accept the paste as text and then manipulate the text entries to change the format.
Your financial package must be rather perverse if it sticks to an unusual format like this and won't allow you to change it.
Good luck anyway.
