How do you get Self Assessment Agent Reference Number

I am trying to register as an agent for Corporation Tax online services. However the HMRC site asks for a  Agent Reference Number. It says I should have already been given this number! But how??? I am just trying to register now.

So how can I get this number? What do I need to do?

Thanks for advice

already registered for personal tax and just trying to add CT or starting from scratch?

Normally the IT and CT references are the same, but not always.

As there are no Agent Maintainers anymore you might try contacting the Central Agent Authorisation Team (CAAT). THIS is the note on HMRC site for SA, but CT should be the same I think.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply and link to HMRC.

Why don't they just let us get the reference code through the website? Strange!

Online agent access

The web site is only to register for on-line access.  It assumes that you are already registered as an agent (and have a reference no).

Don't assume they are the same number for CT and SA

I act for clients for most of the on-line services and although there is one log in to access all services the Agent reference number is different for each one (SA, CT, PAYE and VAT) Not sure why?! Try looking for some old correspondence from HMRC in respect of CT (addressed to you as an agent) - it should have the reference on there.
