How to verify Property opted to tax

Didn't find your answer?

If a commercial property has been opted to tax for vat purposes, can any one advise me how it can be verified.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

OTT
Do not pay any VAT until the landlord has supplied his Election to Waiver ( often referred to as Option to Tax Cert).

It is up to the landlord to confirm that he can charge you VAT.

Opt to tax
You should ask the owner for a copy of their election and a copy of HMRC's acknowledgement. Assuming they did not withdraw that election within the 6 month time limit it is elected for 20 years and is irrevocable.

Or you could contact National option to tax unit at Cotton House, 7 Cochrane Street, Glasgow, G1 1GY (new address) 0141 285 4174/4175 giving the full property details and they may be able to help.
