IRIS: Beware the sting in the tail

Some of you will know that I have been in love with IRSI for many years.  I have often defended them on this site.   This year I decided to move away, simply because of the cost.   The software, I believe, is probably the best.
Shortly after advising them that I planned to move, I received the following email (amongst others):

FROM IRIS

Dear Mr MacDougall,
As per email received below, I am sorry to learn that you wish to cancel.

Unfortunately we are unable to cancel your subscription that is due for renewal in 2 weeks as we have not received 90 days written notice requested to cancel as per our terms and conditions-please see attached

I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused. On this basis if you would like to pursue any of the options that were sent to you earlier today, please do not hesitate to contact me

Kind regards
Caroline Collins

This made me incandescent with rage, so I replied
--------------------------------------

This is a 12 month contract commencing 1 April last. Renewed annually.

I have made no explicit agreement to change this.

You may have attempted to impose changed terms when CORRECTING the product I bought and requiring me to tick a box to receive a CORRECTION to the product that I had already paid for.  But that is not a contract in itself.

Remember the basics: offer, acceptance & consideration.   Without those, there is no contract.   Please remind your legal department.

I am disgusted by you.   Absolutely appalled.

I will repeat your attempt to cheat me to whomsoever I meet (and on the web).   By the time you read this your email to me will be on AccountingWeb.

You will not receive another penny from me without a court so ordering.

I WILL SIMPLY SEND YOU A COPY OF THIS EMAIL IN RESPONSE TO ANY FURTHER REQUEST FOR MONEY UNLESS A COURT ORDERS ME OTHERWISE.

I love your software.   My practice has come to depend upon it.   But your flailing attempt to survive by attempting to enforce payments not due fill me with repulse.

My goodness, you’ve wound me up.   I am practically beside myself with rage.   I feel that I have been housing a viper deep in my office. (and that’s only half of what I feel)

Goodbye, Iris. I hope you sink..  You deserve to.
