Late filing of accounts

Late filing of accounts

Didn't find your answer?

I have recently acquired a new client whose accounts are considerably overdue for filing at Companies House (18 months). The outgoing accountant has advised that if the current accounts are filed on time Companies House will accept these & not chase the missing 2 years, in which case no penalty will be charged. Has anyone had experience of this - it sounds rather unbelievable to me.

In your dreams!
I have never known Companies House give up a penny that they are entitled to.

Given the lateness of the accounts, have you checked to see if the company is still on the register? It it is I would expect CH to be threatening criminal proceedings against the director(s) for failure to submit the accounts.

If the fines are big enough and the company's affairs are simple, I've seen some people transfer the business to a new company and close the old company down. Companies House don't generally pursue fines from struck off companies. It very much depends on if there are tax liabilities, and there could also be money laundering implications.
