on line filing

Didn't find your answer?

I have filed a clients return using HMRC's own software to my surprise I have received a
confirmation that My own tax return has been received, clients ref but my name!!! Hope that I don't get his tax bill.

Anybody else had this problem ?

You are not alone

Yeah, same thing happens here, the acknowledgement shows the name of the registered user rather than the client.

Add it to the list of online failings...

Whilst we're listing online problems....
1> Up the top right, whilst you are working on the return, it says "'s tax return>", where your name = agent's personal name, regardless of which client you are working on. Presumably this is linked to the submission problem.

2> I have entered agent address details in the box, but on the final 'save this copy for client approval' it shows "not entered".

3> I have entered a figure in box-
"Underpaid tax for earlier years included in your tax code for 2007-08 (from your PAYE Notice of Coding)."
which displays correctly on final version for client. However, this figure has then been duplicated and included in the following box on the final version for client (which is definitely entered as zero).
"Estimated underpaid tax for 2007-08 to be included in your PAYE tax code for 2008-09 (from your PAYE Notice of Coding)."

4> The basic html version to give to clients for approval looks appalling. Apparently other agents have reported this and "its being looked at to see if a better version can be produced, maybe later this year". Or words to the effect.

5> The tax computation has to be printed separately (unlike last years pdf returns which just had full details at the end of the return).

6> The fact that there are no box numbers means it takes 10 minutes to report such problems to HMRC in describing which box you are talking about.

I completed over 40 returns using HMRC software with barely any problems last year and had been reasonably impressed. Why do they have to go and ruin it?? Are they being paid off by tax software developers to make us all run out and buy posh software? (I did buy a 5 licence tax software last year for foreign income and managed to crash it about 15 times, including losing all data once, in completing just 3 returns, so guess I will trial something else this year.....).
