Long time off?

Long time off?

Didn't find your answer?

Career break? ,

As some of you may have noted I'm a 27 year old PQ with 2 more exams and about 11 more months till I get to put ACCA after my name.

If I complete my exams and finish my training period filling up my experience record then decide to go back packing for 6-9 months just how damaging is this career wise ?.

Ie if you were an employer or perhaps you are an employer how employable would a person who did the above (almost 4 yrs experience) be?.

I fancy a long trip away as completing all the exams has taken up most of my time and I see life passing away rather alarmingly.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Positive spin
As an employer, I may ask you about the gap in your employment record, and as long as you can put a believably positive spin on your time spent back packing, then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

For example, you won't have been away long enough to have forgotten everything you learned during your training, and if what you've done shows that you can organise yourself, work to a budget, work as part of a team, help others, make decisions etc etc.... then you'll tick a lot of the boxes that others can't. You're more likely to have got the whole travel bug out of your system and be ready to settle down too!

Committment?
Difficult to answer but if you show committment I dont think you'd have a problem. As an employer I'd worry a little you'd actually want to settle into an office career but it will depend on how you come across at an interview.

Life's more important than work!
Im a 28 y/o post-qual. I qualified at 21. Some of the guys I studied with went to Oz via Michael Page International and worked for blue-chips such as Cable & Wireless and Barclays.

They spent 50% of the 2 years working, and 50% surfing and drinking.

Just a thought!!
