Looping problem with XP on PC

Looping problem with XP on PC

Didn't find your answer?

Kind of basic one this.

When I switch on my PC at home it gets to the XP splash screen and then goes into a loop.

Attempts to open in Safe Mode have been unsuccessful. The only advice from the supplier is to hit F11 and go back to the factory presets.

This seems a bit drastic and of course does not allow the recovery of important files.

Does anyone know a way round this?

Thanks to all who read this.

Many thanks to those who respond.

I agree with Neil
Boot from your Windows CD and do a repair re-install. This will most likely work and get you back to where you were.

Google "Repair reinstall" for useful tips and tricks etc.

Be aware that you will have to download all your Updates again but this should happen automatically.

Best of luck!

Hi Ian

Sorry, I can't help really, just wishing you good luck.

You can always plug your hard drive into another working PC to retrieve your files, if that is of any consolation.

What does F11 do?
If F11 resets the BIOS to the factory presets then this shouldn't affect the disc contents.

Try booting from another system disc, CD-ROM etc. This should allow you to repair the XP installation on your hard disk.
