I agree with Malcolm. They cannot insist that you go to the trouble of getting the client to sign another. Therefore, a photocopy of the original or newly printed one, will suffice.

HMRC losing Returns is not new. It's happening all the time.

Have had the same return lost 3 times before.
Look at it this way - what are the options if you don't? Probably easier just to give them a copy but point out it is either a a) photocopy of the signed return or b)printed off with no signature. Never had any complaints for either where this has happened.

..and send them a copy of the receipt to prove that no penalty is due (assuming it was filed on time of course!)
