Sage line 50 Payroll
As someone who use to train and install sage line 50 for an accountancy practice in Bristol. I always found it to be reliable, accurate, full of good features and easy to use. I never had any of the problems described above and can only imagine them to be one off problems. I also found their support line to be excellent.
When I was called on site with some one with problems it was usually down to not having the latest update loaded or down to user error.

Sage Payroll V5 (Windows) gremlin!!!
This was our first year on a computerised payroll system, we are currently using Sage Windows v5.03. I checked my P14/60's and they seemed OK but I was still concerned by Chris' above posting so I contacted Sage and they said that the above problem may be due to using last years P14/60 layouts. For our first time on a computerised system I was really impressed with the year end returns the Sage system produced. I used both the Inland Revenue stationary and Sage's own and both seemed OK, though the Revenues did require a minor adjustment to the print alignment. My only criticism is why do Sage charge for there stationary when it is free from the Inland Revenue??

Not a new problem
I had exactly the same problem with Sovereign payroll in 1998. I ended up capturing the print file for the P60s and editing the figures before printing. I wasn't impressed, either.

Reply from Sage
We need more information from the customer before we can answer their query - it's not one we've come across with this particular version of Payroll. I would suggest they call us on the payroll helpline which is 0191 255 0601 and ask for Rebecca Holden who is a payroll technician. Obviously, we're still in payroll year end territory so I would also ask them to bear with us if they don't get through immediately.

Sage Payroll Gremlin
I too have had serious problems with the Payroll update. After half an hour on the telephone with the help desk team, who talked me through changing various files on my system, upon re-booting my computer, the machine crashed. They had told me change some Windows operating files. My hardware supplier and I had to spend one afternoon, repairing the system.

I have now moved from Sage payroll to PAYE Master with Freepay.
