Microsoft Excel Sharing Violation

I am using Microsoft Excel 2007 on Vista and on attempting to save workbooks, I frequently get the error message 'Filename cannot be saved due to a sharing violation'  Does anyone else have this problem and if so can you shed any light on what may be causing it please?  Some days it does not occur at all and other days virtually every time I attempt to save a file.

I haven't come across this  (I do not have Vista). Looking on the web, there seem to be a number of schools of thought. The two main ones are:

a) Antivirus program

b) Windows Desktop search

Check your antivirus settings (Trend Antivirus appears to be a particular offender). Try uninstalling and  reinstalling Windows Destop Search if that doesn't work.

With luck, someone more knowlegeable will be along soon.

Disable windows desktop search.  That usually cures it.

Better still, get rid of Vista and upgrade to windows 7.  Vista has always been a nightmare - slow, full of bugs, and unstable - and those are its good points.
