I had a lightning strike at home recently that resulted in the death of my domestic PC, but not the Hard Drive which was rescuable, with family photos etc and the Microsoft Money data file. But not of course the program itself. Try as I might, I can't find the Money 2001 disc which was installed on there. Downloaded versions of the last version of Money or trial versions of Money 2001 and 2003 all say that the data I have is incompatible and anyway, there's nothing desparate that's lost. It's nice to know how much we spent on such-and-such a holiday, but not critical.
So I am abandoning the past. Are there any recommendations for domestic bank account handling programs, like Money and Quicken which are now unsupported antiques? I just want something that handles a few bank and savings accounts and 3-4 Credit Cards. Nothing fancy. The ones I see trailed online are MoneyDance and GnuCash (which is freeware), but does anyone have any knowledge of either of these or alternatives?

VT cashbook
Free, easy and very quick to use. Allows numerous bank accounts and reconciliation. They provide a COA for home accounts.
The US versions of MS-Money can not read UK data files.
As the US version of MS-Money can not read UK MS-Money data files, you will have to find someone that has a disk for MS-Money.
As you have paid for an licance, I see no reason way someone should not give you a copy of their disk.
I don't understand
The program would have been on the hard drive. If the hard drive is intact then it should still be there. Is it possible that your old hard drive has been installed as a secondary drive (E or higher) in your new PC? If so the program will probably not appear in all programs. If you search the drive you should be able to find the folder, and thereby the ,exe file, for the program and copy a shortcut to your desktop.
BTW look in E:\Program Files\ for the folder (or F or G, whatever it is called).
