MLR Late Registration Fee?

MLR Late Registration Fee?

Didn't find your answer?

... comes into effect from today, and covers accountants, bookkeepers, and PAYE providers.

According to the Revenue's 13th February release at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/mlr/latest-news.htm any ASP not supervised by one of the professional bodies listed at schedule 3 of the Regs had a further 3 months until the administrative deadline of 1st July to register and pay their £95 registration fee.

Why then are HMRC now telling us that any ASP not registered by today's deadline will face an automatic late registration penalty of £200?

Radio 2
The spokesman was a guy on R2 around mid-day, what I think was the Today programme, but there is no mention of this on the BBC or any of the news websites (I'm not surprised - I can't find any breaking news on the postal walkout either).

Apparently ASP's must register by midnight tonight or face a £200 penalty if before 1 July and prosecition if after. And £95 app. fee, which I believe can be paid online or over the phone.

To Register or Not?
I was under the impression that as a member of a Designated Professional Body (DPB) I didn’t need to register? or is it that the ASP Firm/Company must register but not individuals who are DPB members?

I ask because form MLR100 asks at question 58 "is any partner of director a member of a DPB? (Though the notes state that this question is optional).

Any thoughts?

April Fool more like!
Are HMRC capable of a laugh?.....its soooo not funny.

Could they have been talking about MSB, which are not the same as ASP, and there was a final deadline of 14 March before Penalty was imposed, perhaps they have extended it.

If we are not careful, we will be posting the full MLR Notice on here

BTW, when I called the Helpline, the officer had to look up the instructions from the web.....hmmm

1st April
If you were in business as an ASP prior to today, you have until 1 July to send form in.

However, if you were NOT in business as an ASP prior to 1 April, you need to apply before you carry on the business.

Could that be what they were talking about?

Rubbish!
Hi Andrew, not been listening to Radio 2, but was just reviewing the form, as I need to register.
Shocked to hear of the deadline tonight and penalty?

States nowhere on HMRC website about this and administration deadline remains 1 July 2008, register opens 1 October 2008.

Ive just called National Helpline (0845 010 9000) and they dont know of any 1 April deadline for ASP or Penalties?

Revenue trying to get money in early thats all.

Who was the spokesman?

Cheers

from money laundering to money grabbing
£95 registration fee every year for what????????????????? Daylight robbery, but then we all know when Gordon gets a bit short anything goes.
This is nothing to do with money laundering as proposed by EU. This is purely a gimmick to raise extra cash for the Revenue!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spooky
Hi Caron,

Yup, looks like we posted at excactly the same moment.

Looks like we were listening to the same radio: what did you think of the Revenue spokesman on radio 2 saying HMRC will prosecute anyone who hasn't regitered as an ASP by midnight, as well as the £200 fine and the £95 registration fee?
