MLR requirements

Didn't find your answer?

Hi
We have 4 new clients this week.
What information do I need to get from them to keep within the MLR requirements?
Photocopy of passports? Driving licence? Home utility bill?
Is there a "checklist" out there?
Thanks a lot.

MLR requirements

David

The MLR 2007 require you to do various things, one of which is to confirm the ID of clients and the beneficial owners of clients (so that, for example, if the client is a company you need to confirm the ID of the company itself and the ID of any shareholders holding more than 25% of the shares in the company, at least).

But these are by no means the only requirements of MLR 2007.

Have a look at the CCAB guidance, which you can access from http://www.ccab.org.uk/documents.php.

This includes, at chapter 5, guidance on the specific documents which might be acceptable for confirming ID in different circumstances.

This guidance applies both to accountants who are members of the recognised professional bodies and to accountants who are not (i.e. those registering with and supervised by HMR&C).
