I wanted to see how an Any Answer question had progressed but now that it is off the front page I cannot seem to access it.
When I click the 'more' link at the bottom it just seems ro freeze for a while before giving up.
Any answers?!

It works for me
... but ever so slowly. More on the main list seems to work quicker than More on Latest Answers - perhaps, 2 minutes rather than 4!
Same problem here...
Agree - it looks like it is trying to down load a media file, which I guess is advertising. Perhaps the ads-server has gone down which has caused the page to fail (pretty poor design if you ask me, but a lot of sites fail because of this nowadays).
Power compensates for efficiency ...
Marcromedia, streaming data etc. does not help matters. Futhermore testing is probably done over fast lines and as such relies upon line speed to compensate for potential page inefficiency.
Just as an experiment Aweb should run a few of its pages via a 56k modem to see just how severe the effect could be for those without broadband.
There used to be an implied standard that one always targeted the lowest common denominator, however this seems to have been discarded. Personally I am not in favour of any app that forces the user to download a 3rd part product in order to run (ie flash). All apps should have the capability of 'downgrading' correctly so that those who don't want flash etc don't have it forced upon them - quite frankly I don't want all manner of rubbish downloaded because the developer cannot do the job properly
Its like all things in life the more powerful the tools/processors/line speeds become the more remote peoples drive for efficiency becomes.
M$ is a pass-master at this and one only has to look at the 'bloat' of their latest Office programs to see the position. Visicalc used to run in 16K and goodness knows the current size of Excel with all its extras (most people only use about 30% of the functionality anyway)
3 options
Hi Dean,
I also found the 'more' link on the any answers to be 'freezing' from time to time so I tried coming up with alternative way of finding the AnyAnswer post. I found 3 ways depending on how old the post was and how old was the last reply on this question.
1. Visit the different sections of AccoutingWeb (TAX, IT, PRACTICE, BUSINESS, BUSINESS REPORTING) - links on the 1st box left hand side. Each of these has a 'Any Answer' section and yours might still be on the main section page. I also found the 'more' link to be more reliable there.
2. Visit the main 'Any Answer' page and if your question got a reply recently, it will be in the right hand column - latest answers
3. Use google, if you remember the title of the question or any comments made in it, go to google and type: site:accountingweb.co.uk "the question or keyword" - use the " " around your keywords if you are certain they appear in that order, don't use them if you want looser search results.
Hope this help.
Regards
Leo
